Day Two - Omaha

Day Two - to Omaha: After having driven 13 consecutive hours, our seven hour trip to Omaha, Nebraska did not seem too bad. After a leisurely breakfast with my cousins Rachel and Judy, we set off across Illinois and then into the corn fields of Iowa. As we traveled across I-80, we saw hundreds and hundreds of miles of corn. Corn, corn, corn, corn...you get the idea. It is appropriate that the sign that welcomes drivers into Iowa claims that it is the state with "fields of possibilities." It was humorous at first, but by the 300th mile of corn, we were no longer laughing.

In order to break up the monotony we discussed things we had enjoyed about our drive through Nebraska. We came up with the following list:

1. Seeing free-range cows
2. Observing fertilizer planes hover above the corn fields (though we could have sworn those had been banned in the 1950s)
3. The colorful Nebraskan license plates

Needless to say, it was a long drive.

We finally arrived in Omaha where Chelsea made us feel right at home. After a quick tour of the house we drove to downtown Omaha to stretch our legs and eat. What exactly does one do in downtown Omaha? After wandering aimlessly for some time we found the Old Market, a pedestrian area with shops and restaurants. After a quick dinner we made our way back to Chelsea's and quickly to bed. On this second day of traveling we logged just under 500 miles.
